On a recent Price of Business Show, Host Kevin Price visited with Inc. columnist Tenesha Carr.

4.4 million Americans quit their jobs last month, but it doesn’t mean they’re unemployed. Applicants for new businesses were up 30% from pre-pandemic levels, with Black females making up the second largest demographic increase in business owners at 22%. Teneshia Carr, the curator of Inc. Magazine’s All the Hats, a destination for Black female entrepreneurs and Blanc Magazine Media founder can weigh in on successfully navigating the challenges these entrepreneurs face.

Black women entrepreneurs are on the rise, accounting for almost 2.7M businesses, but these women face unique roadblocks along the way, including:

  • Mentorship; 1 in 4 Black entrepreneurs say the top challenge they face is lack of mentorship
  • Lower sales: 51% of U.S. Black-owned businesses in Meta’s Global State of Small Business Report said sales were down last year
  • Business outlook: 54% of minority-led SMBs claimed they were confident in their ability to operate for the next 12 months, compared to 67% of others
